Universal screening is supposed to catch every student who might need extra help. Reading, math, and behavior checks are now standard parts of back-to-school plans. Still, many schools do not have a clear way to spot students whose main challenge is visual-motor, not academics or behavior.

Most universal screening menus focus on:

  • Literacy, like letter sounds, decoding, and fluency  

  • Numeracy, like basic number sense and math facts
